What it means#

KP horary takes a querent's number in the closed range 1 to 249.

What to do#

The range is exactly 1 to 249, and the upper bound is not arbitrary. Each of the 27 nakṣatras divides into 9 subs, giving 243; six of the twelve sign cusps fall inside a sub rather than on its boundary, splitting those six in two. 243 + 6 = 249.

So 250 is not "one past the end of an array" — there is no 250th division of the zodiac under this scheme. See Concepts.
